Lava Lamp Terms — Guests and Hosts
Effective: 9 October 2026
Last updated: 9 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-09
These Terms govern your use of Lava Lamp — finding events, buying tickets and RSVPing as a guest, and listing and selling tickets to events as a host. Lava Lamp is a product of Sepia Labs. It is provided by Sepia Labs LLC (“Sepia Labs”, “we”, “us”), a Florida limited liability company. By creating an account, buying a ticket, RSVPing or listing an event, you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a business that hosts events, you confirm you have authority to bind it, and “you” means that business.
These Terms apply whether or not you create an account. The ticket checkout links to these Terms before you pay. Read the host’s event description, age restrictions and refund policy before completing a purchase. A notice on a page does not waive any consent requirement or other right that applies under law.
1. What Lava Lamp is
Lava Lamp is where people find a night out. Hosts publish event pages, choose whether to list them in Explore, and sell tickets or take RSVPs; guests find events, buy tickets, join waitlists and keep their tickets in one place. Card payments are processed by Stripe on the host’s own Stripe account (Stripe Connect).
The host runs the event and sells the ticket. Lava Lamp provides the listing, ticketing and payment tools; we are not a party to the sale between a host and a guest, and Lava Lamp does not hold ticket money.
2. Accounts and ages
- Guests: a Lava Lamp account used to buy and keep event tickets is a personal account. You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to these Terms for you.
- Hosts: to host on Lava Lamp — an organizer account, or a seat on someone else’s host team — you must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract.
- Events can carry their own age rule. A host may set a minimum age for an event (for example 18+ or 21+). That rule is the host’s, and the host enforces it — usually by checking ID at the door. Being old enough for a Lava Lamp account does not make you old enough for every event; check the event’s age rule before you buy.
- You confirm your age when you create an account, and we keep a record of that confirmation.
- Give accurate information and keep it current. You are responsible for your sign-in details and for everything done under your account. Tell us promptly at Lava Lamp support if you suspect unauthorized access.
An event’s disclosed age and ID requirements apply even if you can hold a Lava Lamp account. If entry is refused because you do not meet those requirements, refunds follow the host’s policy disclosed before purchase and applicable law.
3. Buying tickets
- The host is the merchant of record. When you buy a ticket, you are buying it from the host. You are charged on the host’s own Stripe account, so the host’s name is on your statement and the money goes straight to them.
- Card payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us, and Stripe’s own terms and privacy policy apply to the payment.
- The price of each ticket is shown before you pay.
- When a host turns on a waitlist, you can join it with a saved card. Nothing is charged unless a ticket opens up for you.
Any Lava Lamp platform fee is currently deducted from the host’s proceeds; it is not added as a separate guest service fee. The total price and any applicable taxes must be shown before payment. Hosts must not advertise a price that hides mandatory fees.
4. Your tickets and codes
- Your confirmation email carries your ticket and its code. Each ticket has its own code — buying for friends gives each seat its own code — and the host’s door team scans it. Signed in with the same verified email, My Tickets gathers every order bought with that address.
- A full refund or a chargeback cancels that order’s ticket codes, and they stop admitting. A refund of selected tickets cancels those tickets. An amount-only partial refund keeps the tickets unless the host separately cancels them.
- Lava Lamp cannot move a ticket to someone else today. If you can’t make it, ask the host — they can refund your order or add a friend to the list.
Keep your ticket code private. A code can admit only its assigned seat; sharing or copying it can allow another person to use it first. Lava Lamp does not provide a ticket resale marketplace or a transfer service. Ask the host about any permitted name change or transfer before giving a ticket to someone else. A copied code does not create another right of admission.
5. Refunds and cancellations
- Refunds come from the host, because the payment is theirs. Each host sets its own refund and cancellation policy, issues its own refunds and is responsible for chargebacks and disputes. A guest asking for their money back should ask the host — your confirmation email replies to them, and their page is linked from the event.
- If a host cancels an event, everyone going, and everyone on the waitlist, hears from us by email. Cancelling does not refund anyone on its own: refunding is a money decision, so it stays an explicit action the host takes. Lava Lamp gives the host the tools to refund every paid ticket, per ticket or all at once, and keeps the records in sync when they do.
- We cannot refund a guest on a host’s behalf, and we are not a party to that transaction.
If a host cancels an event without providing the purchased event, the host must offer a full refund of the ticket price and any mandatory charges it collected for that ticket. The host must initiate that refund; cancellation in Lava Lamp does not initiate it automatically. Guests may contact Lava Lamp support if a host is unreachable or does not honor its obligations. We can investigate platform misuse, but do not guarantee repayment of the host’s debts. Nothing here limits rights a guest may have with their card issuer or under applicable law.
6. At the event
- The host is responsible for the event — the venue, the programme, safety, and the people it hires. Lava Lamp does not organize, run or attend the events listed on it.
- Admission is at the host’s discretion. A host may refuse entry for lawful reasons, including disclosed age, ID or conduct requirements, subject to section 5 and applicable law.
- Do not use Lava Lamp to break the law or help someone else break it; to defraud, phish, or impersonate a person or organisation; or to harass, threaten or target anyone.
- If an event looks unsafe or like a scam, misleads about the event, carries inappropriate content, or is spam or a duplicate, use “Report this event” on its page. Every report reaches our team.
Hosts must apply admission policies lawfully and consistently with the conditions disclosed before purchase. Refusal of entry does not remove a guest’s rights under applicable law. Other refund questions, including refusal for age, ID or conduct, follow the host’s disclosed policy.
7. Hosting on Lava Lamp
Your organizer account is a business account. The Terms of Service, the Acceptable Use Policy and the Refund Policy also apply to it; this section is the part of them that matters most when you sell tickets.
- You must be at least 18 to host (section 2).
- Payments. To sell tickets you connect your own Stripe account and agree to Stripe’s terms. You are the merchant of record for your own sales. You receive the funds, you set your own refund and cancellation policy, and you are responsible for refunds, chargebacks, and disputes.
- Fees. We may collect a platform fee on each ticket sale, disclosed in your plan. Stripe charges its own processing fees to your Stripe account under Stripe’s terms.
- Your event. You are responsible for the event and for what your listing says about it — date, place, price, age rule and line-up — and for following the laws that apply to it.
- Your guests’ information. You are responsible for the personal information of your guests that you receive: having a lawful basis to use it, giving your own privacy notice, getting consent where the law requires it — in particular for marketing email and SMS — and honouring opt-outs and deletion requests.
- We may suspend hosting for fraud, abuse, carrier or provider complaints, non-payment, or a credible security risk. Where practical we will tell you first; where the risk is immediate we may act first and tell you promptly.
For Lava Lamp events, these Terms control over conflicting general Sepia terms. Hosts must disclose their refund and admission policies before a guest pays and honor the policy in effect for that purchase, subject to section 5 and applicable law. General Sepia subscription and usage refund rules still apply to charges for the host’s software plan.
Kickbacks (event referrals). When enabled by a host, Lava Lamp records eligible ticket sales attributed to referral links and the host’s rate at settlement. Self-referrals do not earn; refunds and disputes can reduce or cancel recorded earnings. Hosts pay promoters directly and record settlement in Lava Lamp. A settlement record is not a bank transfer: Lava Lamp does not automatically pay promoters or guarantee a host’s payment. Hosts and promoters are responsible for their arrangement, applicable taxes and any required disclosure that a promoter may earn from a shared link.
8. What hosts post
- You may post only flyers, photos, video, music and text that you own or have the rights to use.
- You keep ownership of what you post. You grant us a limited licence to host, process and display it to run Lava Lamp for you — your event page, your listing in Explore, and the previews shown when your event link is shared.
- You must not post content that infringes anyone’s intellectual property, misleads guests about the event, or that is unlawful. Sexual content involving minors, and non-consensual intimate imagery, are never allowed — there is no exception and no warning before removal.
For a copyright complaint, contact Lava Lamp support with the work concerned, the specific event or content URL, your contact details, and an explanation of your ownership or authority to complain. We may seek more information and restrict or remove infringing content. This support address is not a representation that a statutory copyright agent has been registered.
9. Listing review and removal
- A host publishes its own event page whenever it likes. Being listed in Explore is a separate choice, made per event. Listed events appear when the host publishes them, without a prior approval queue. We may review, hide or remove them afterward under these Terms. An unlisted public event page can still be opened by anyone with its link.
- We may decline, hide or remove a listing — in particular one that looks unsafe or like a scam, misleads about the event, carries inappropriate content, or is spam or a duplicate.
- Where an event page or listing breaches these Terms or the law, we may also take the event page down or suspend the host’s account (section 7).
10. Messages from Lava Lamp and from hosts
- We email you what your ticket or RSVP needs: confirmations, your ticket and its code, waitlist news, and notice if an event is cancelled.
- Text messages are sent only if you opt in on the form, beside the phone field. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help.
- Where a host has no business name of its own, the consent disclosure names the sender as Lava Lamp (a Sepia Labs product) — the same company named in these Terms.
- A host’s own marketing is sent by that host, under its own name and its own terms. Reply STOP to that message to stop messages from that host.
The full program is in the SMS Terms, and how we handle your information is in the Privacy Policy. For access to or deletion of the information a host holds about you as its guest, contact that host directly — they control it.
Sepia Labs controls information used to operate your own Lava Lamp account, provide the service, prevent abuse and meet its legal obligations. Hosts control the guest information they use to organize their events and for their own communications; we process event records for them to provide the platform. Each party remains responsible for its own uses. The Privacy Policy explains the data and purposes in more detail. Contact Lava Lamp support about your account data and the host about the host’s guest records; legal retention requirements may limit deletion.
11. Third-party services
Lava Lamp relies on services we do not control — Stripe, Twilio, Resend, Google and others. Your use of them is governed by their terms, and we are not responsible for their availability, acts, or omissions. If one changes or withdraws its service, the related Lava Lamp feature may change or stop.
12. Availability
We work to keep Lava Lamp available and reliable, but we do not offer a contractual uptime commitment. Maintenance, provider outages, and incidents can interrupt the service — including ticket pages and scanning at the door.
13. Intellectual property
Lava Lamp, its software, design, and brand are owned by Sepia Labs. These Terms grant no right to our trademarks. Feedback you send us may be used freely and without obligation.
14. Disclaimers
Except where law forbids it, Lava Lamp is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Listings are supplied by hosts. We do not guarantee that a listed event will occur, that its description is accurate, or that a host will perform its obligations. This does not exclude responsibility that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
15. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data. Subject to the guest-specific cap and exceptions below, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to it. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
For a guest’s personal use, our total liability is capped at the greater of US $100 or the amount the guest paid directly to Sepia Labs in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. Ticket money paid to the host is not a payment to Sepia Labs. For hosts, the twelve-month amount in the preceding paragraph applies. No exclusion or cap in these Terms applies to fraud, intentional misconduct, or any liability that applicable law does not allow to be excluded or limited.
16. Indemnity
If you host, you will defend and indemnify Sepia Labs against claims arising from your events, what you post, your messaging practices, your sales and refunds, or your breach of these Terms — including claims brought by your own guests.
This indemnity applies to hosts. Personal guest accounts do not give an indemnity under this section. A host is not required to indemnify Sepia Labs for Sepia Labs’ own fraud, intentional misconduct, or liability that cannot lawfully be shifted.
17. Ending your use
You may stop using Lava Lamp at any time, and you may ask us to delete your account by writing to Lava Lamp support. We may suspend or end an account for breach of these Terms or legal risk. Sections that by their nature should survive — ownership, amounts owed, disclaimers, liability limits, and indemnity — survive. Deleting a guest account does not cancel or refund tickets already bought.
Request any ticket refund from the host separately before deleting account access you need to manage it. Account deletion does not waive a valid refund claim, and required transaction or dispute records may be retained as described in the Privacy Policy.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will revise the date above and, for material changes, give notice. Material changes apply prospectively after the notice specifies they take effect. Where affirmative acceptance is required, we will ask for it. A change does not retroactively remove rights attached to an earlier purchase.
19. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The exclusive venue for disputes is Miami-Dade County, Florida.
These provisions do not remove mandatory consumer protections or a right to bring a claim in a court that applicable law makes available to you. Either party may use an eligible small-claims court. These Terms do not require arbitration or waive participation in a class action. You may contact Lava Lamp support to try to resolve a problem informally; doing so is not a condition of exercising your legal rights.
20. Contact
Questions about a specific event — tickets, refunds, entry — are the host’s to answer. Anything about your account or Lava Lamp itself is ours: write to Lava Lamp support. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
